Judges are elected for a ten year term. At the end of their term voters are asked if the judge should be retained for another term. If the majority of voters are satisfied with the judge and vote to retain them, the judge is automatically granted another term. In the event that a majority vote against retention, then the judge is removed. The Governor can propose a replacement, but this requires a 2/3 majority in the senate to be approved. Otherwise the vacancy can only be filled in a partisan election - in the present case not until 2028, leaving the position unfilled!
Several judges are up for retention in the election in November. PA Supreme Court Justices Donohue, Dougherty and Wecht, PA Superior Court Judge Beck Dubow and PA Commonwealth Judge Wojcik are all due for retention in the election in November.
The current incumbents have served our democracy well and should be retained .
VOTE YES ON RETENTION FOR THESE JUSTICES AND JUDGES!
To be announced soon.
